The Show

Kate Quinby

Episode 493

Artist: Kate Quinby

Kate Quinby is a Chicago-based world folk musician releasing her debut album Tribute to Water alongside co-producers: Grammy award winning producer/engineer Brian Leach and professional trumpet player Stephen Wright. The album blurs stylistic lines resulting in an eclectic collection of songs. Kate pulls from genres of folk, soul, jazz, and blues and has integrated a plethora of multinational sounds and musicians into the project, such as Argentine folklore drummer Camilo Carabajal, New Orleans trumpet player Michael Girardot, and audio from a community gathering in from Lacor, Uganda. Kate's Album release show is tomorrow night, June 7, 2013 at the Subterranean

While Tribute to Water is Kate's first solo project, she has had the pleasure of collaborating with various other artists. Kate is featured on tracks such as "Take that Home" by The Bridge; she collaborated writing/recording backup vocals on Laura Jean Thompson's debut album River of Doubt; the track "Para Quien" was remixed by NYC DJ Mic & Ike; she performed with Chicago blues rock band Bassel & the Supernaturals; and is also featured on J.M.Harper Media's song "I Hate Mono".

Kate is also a cofounder of the Dwon Madiki Partnership (DMP) a community based organization in Uganda, and donates proceeds from select shows to the organization. DMP is a partnership between students in Chicago, IL and students in northern Uganda. DMP supports 20 orphaned and vulnerable children in the Gulu District, a war-torn region, by funding their school fees at high quality boarding schools as well as by providing them with school supplies and uniforms on a regular basis. The program has also hosted art exhibits of the children’s work in Metropolis Cafe and Loyola University Museum of Art in Chicago, IL.
