Daniela and Sam have known one another for over 8 years. They are thrilled to come together for a night of soul music.
Daniela Sloan (a.k.a. DAJA) is a Chicago native with Colombian roots performing original acoustic soul throughout Chicago. Backed by her guitar and upright bassist Scott Bakshis, she is a powerful and sensual performer singing with the classic sound of Nina Simone blended with the poetry and cadence of Jill Scott and Lauryn Hill. Her original songs move between hip-hop, blues, and Latin, often surprising audiences by integrating Flamenco footwork and spoken word into performances. Daniela is an up and coming Chicago artist, often featured in Chicago’s popular Paper Machete show at the Green Mill Jazz Club. She has been interviewed on NPR and has recorded and performed with European artists Fink and WAEK. She is set to release her second album under the new moniker DAJA in the fall of 2019.
Former host and founder of Get Off The Couch Chicago, Sam Whal is a singer-songwriter from Sacramento, CA originally. Look out for new band and new album realease in 2019! He will be accompanied by Ryan Joseph Anderson (guitar/vox) and Molly Rife (cello).
