Event Information

Date & Time:Thu, 11/15/2018 - 8:00pm - 11:00pm

ACÚSTICO is a series of intimate live acoustic sessions of traditional and contemporary songs of Latin America and beyond. Thursday, November 15th features a special duo performance from The Luna Blues Machine from 8-11pm, with no cover charge. Kick off your weekend with great music, cocktails, and bites by Dusek's.

Performance lives deep in our bones. In the beginning it was hymns, choirs and church songs. In high school it was musical theater. Singing groups with friends. Studying the vocal harmonies of En Vogue and '90's R&B. Songwriting flourished when we were separated. Off to college and then in the Chi we were reunited. First performing at open mics. The Luna Blues Machine was born!

Founded in 2001 the LBM found a home at Subterranean's Monday Night Open Mic, we became regulars and began friendships with so many talented artists performing involved in Chicago's music scene. This launched us into the world of live performance and connected us with various gigs throughout the city.

Today The Luna Blues Machine consists of Maritza and Belinda Cervantes (guitar and mandolin), accompanied by bass (John "Hippie" Germinaro) and a rotation of wonderful drummers.

Hip-Hop, Latin, Soul, and Folk all find their way into LBM's sound. Poetic lyrics mixed with harmonies drive the sisters' storytelling. Most songs are originals and some songs are in Spanish.

The LBM has had the pleasure of playing Chicago venues such as the Elbo Room, Funky Buddha Lounge, Goose Island, Chicago Cultural Center, The Hot House, Subterranean, Betty's Blue Star Lounge, The Morseland, Green Dolphin Street, Red Line Tap and The Taste of Chicago.

The band won Underground Wonder Bar's Battle of the Bands in 2006 and was featured as part of the Great Performer's of Illinois for two consecutive years in 2006 - 2007.

Our self-titled debut studio album was released in 2009.
LBM was featured as "The Hardest Working Band in Chicago" in Gozamos online magazine in 2010.
and in WGN's Adelante Chicago as part of Hispanic Heritage Month in 2011.

In 2012, our single Roots Run Deep was included as part of the Ten x Ten Project; a collaboration between visual artists and musicians throughout Chicago and the band performed at Howard Zinn's The People Speak, Live! held at The Metro.

We've had the honor of playing for Gathering of Nation's Powwow and Miss Indian World Pageant in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2013 and 2015 which sprouted our latest live album.

Most recently, we were named the winners of Moe's Taverns' Battle of the Bands in March 2017.
